Our Process
How we repair a tub
Real structural repair plus a factory-grade refinish — here's exactly what happens from inspection to the final glossy coat.
01
Inspection & Assessment
We examine the tub for flex, delamination, stress cracks, and surface wear. Tapping the floor and walls reveals hollow or unsupported areas behind the shell. You get a clear diagnosis and a fixed-price quote — no surprises.
Flex & soft-spot test
Crack depth mapping
Material ID (fiberglass / acrylic)
Fixed written quote
02
Surface Prep & Masking
The work area is cleaned, the old finish is etched for adhesion, and everything around the tub is masked off. Proper prep is what separates a refinish that lasts years from one that peels in months.
Degrease & deep clean
Acid etch / sanding
Full masking & containment
Ventilation set up
03
Structural Repair
For bottom jobs and cracks, the damaged area is ground out and rebuilt with layered fiberglass cloth and resin, bonded directly to the original shell. This restores real rigidity — not a cosmetic patch that flexes and re-cracks.
Grind out failed material
Layered fiberglass + resin
Structural support under the floor
Cured to full hardness
04
Filling & Fairing
Repaired areas are filled, then sanded fair and flush with the surrounding surface through progressively finer grits, so the repair is completely invisible once coated.
Fill low spots
Block-sand level
Feather edges smooth
Final surface inspection
05
Priming & Refinishing
A bonding primer is applied, followed by a sprayed topcoat — gelcoat or a modern acrylic-urethane coating — in your chosen color and sheen. Multiple thin coats build a smooth, glossy, non-porous surface.
Bonding primer coat
Color-matched topcoat
Optional slip-resistant floor
High-gloss factory look
06

Materials & Methods
What we build with
🧵
Fiberglass Cloth & Resin
For structural repairs we use woven fiberglass and catalyzed resin — the same material the tub is made from — so the repair becomes part of the shell.
🛡️
Bonding Primers
Industrial adhesion promoters chemically grip the old surface so the new finish will not peel, bubble, or lift over time.
💎
Acrylic-Urethane Topcoats
Modern sprayed coatings cure to a hard, non-porous, high-gloss surface that resists staining and is easy to keep clean.
🌬️
Low-Odor Systems
For occupied homes and apartments we use low-odor, fast-curing systems with proper ventilation and containment.
Common Questions
Good to know
How long does it take?
Most spot repairs take 1–2 hours; a full refinish takes 3–5 hours. The tub is typically usable again 24 hours after we finish.
Will the repair be visible?
No. We color-match and fair the surface so repairs blend completely into the surrounding finish.
Do you remove the tub?
Almost never. Nearly all repairs and refinishing are done in place, with no plumbing or demolition.
How long does a refinish last?
A properly prepped refinish lasts 10–15+ years with normal care. We back ours with a 5-year written warranty.
